This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced events management professional to provide leadership in creating and delivering high-quality events for one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious schools in the beautiful and historic city of Winchester.
The College is a large and complex organisation, with over 700 residential students and 500 employees. The pupils live in 11 boarding houses and the school is spread over a stunning 200 acre campus and includes a wide variety of buildings and grounds, from medieval chambers to state of the art sporting, cultural and academic facilities.
The College has ambitious plans with a significant amount of development over the next few years, including the desire to make best of our grounds and facilities for a wide range of stakeholders, including pupils, parents, wider College Community and the general public
About the role
The purpose of this role is to create and lead a high performing events team that covers 2 main areas:
The team currently hosts a varied selection of commercial events at the school each year. These range from weddings, conferences, summer schools, sports classes to holiday lettings of space and accommodation. The right candidate will have the confidence to develop and deliver an ambitious plan to grow the range and number of events the College hosts, and establish the College as a high quality venue both within Hampshire and beyond.
This will require a blend of skills – business development and relationship building, sales and marketing, leadership, a high level of organisation and a commitment to customer service. The role also requires dynamism combined with a high level of diplomacy to manage internal stakeholders and clients.
The Head of Events reports to the Chief Operating Officer and is a key leadership role within the Operations team

Salary
Competitive salary, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary levels are reviewed on 1st September annually.
Holidays
The College leave year runs from 1 September to 31 August. This position will be entitled to the statutory holiday requirements. These are presently 28 days. Any Public Bank Holiday occurring during term time is deemed to be a normal working day. Holidays may not be taken during the school’s term-times, nor within the week either side of those dates.
All leave must be taken by prior arrangement with the designated line manager and should be given with four weeks’ notice. No bookings should be made until written approval has been obtained.
Probation Period and Notice Period
The first six months of employment, including the training time, will be a probationary period. During these three months the notice required by either party to terminate the employment will be one week, increasing to one calendar month on either side on satisfactory completion of the trial period.
Enhanced Disclosure and other Pre-employment Checks

This will provide details of convictions, reprimands, warnings, cautions and bind covers as per the DBS filtering guidance.
