Responsibilities
The Central Cleaning team is responsible for the day-to-day cleanliness of all school buildings except the Boarding Houses. This includes sports facilities and all administrative offices. The areas of responsibility allocated to individual members of the Central Cleaning team will vary from time to time and according to the team schedule. The Central Cleaners will be required to work largely unsupervised, and be flexible in order to help provide cover for absent colleagues when necessary. The team is expected to be organised and have attention to detail in everything they do.
The team is also responsible for the setting up of rooms for both school events and events booked by our commercial lets department. This aspect of the role does require some moving and lifting of furniture such as tables, benches and chairs.
The Cleaner and Event Set-up Assistant will be expected to follow detailed instructions, and be capable of meeting the physical requirements of the post. No experience is required as training will be provided; however, applicants who have experience of commercial cleaning and COSHH will have an advantage.
The Cleaner and Event Set-up Assistant will work as part of the Cleaning team, under the day-to-day supervision of the Team Leaders and Facilities Manager. The Head of Department is the Domestic Bursar and the Line Manager is the Facilities Manager. There will also be frequent contact with members of staff in the Departments where staff are assigned. The main duties are:
* To assist in the setting up of event venues and music rooms;
* To clean allocated areas. The type of cleaning will depend on the use of the building, and may include cleaning showers and WCs, sweeping, mopping, dusting, polishing, emptying bins and vacuuming. This list is not exhaustive;
* To keep up to date with cleaning methods and to undertake regular Health & Safety training, as required;
* To periodically clean the insides of windows. Sometimes this might involve using a step ladder;
* To be able to lift reasonably heavy items such as cleaning equipment, full bin bags, and pieces of furniture etc;.
* To immediately report any defects or safety hazards and any accidents, however small, to the Central Cleaning Team Leaders, Facilities Manager or Heads of the Departments;
* To undertake any other work when reasonably requested by the Central Cleaning Team Leaders, Facilities Manager or Heads of the Departments to which you have been tasked.
This Job Description is not specific to any particular area within the College as the Central Cleaning team move around all parts of the school campus. Specific duties within the tasked department will be explained on induction to that department.
A driving licence would be an advantage but is not essential.

We have several positions available:
* 4 days on, 4 days off, 7.00am - 1.00pm, year round
* Monday to Friday, 1.00pm -8.30pm, term-time only
* Monday to Friday, 1.00pm -8.30pm, year round
Salary
GBP 9.07/hour. Salary is paid in 12 equal instalments monthly in arrears to a nominated bank account. Salary levels are reviewed on 1st September annually. The next salary review for this post will be September 2020.
Holiday
The College leave year runs from 1 September to 31 August. These positions will be entitled to the statutory entitlement of paid holiday per annum, which is currently 28 days including Bank Holidays. Bank Holidays occurring during term time are deemed as normal working days. For term-time only roles, all holiday must be taken in our school holidays.
Probation and Notice Periods
The first four months of employment will be a probationary period. During this time conduct and performance will be reviewed. The College may extend the probationary period if it is deemed to be required. During the probationary period the notice required to terminate employment will be one week (by either the employee or employer). The notice will increase upon the successful completion of the probationary period.
Pension and Life Cover
After three months' employment, employees will be auto-enrolled into the College's pension scheme according to legislative thresholds. Those who are not eligible for auto-enrolment may still elect to join the College's pension scheme. Initially, when joining the College's pension scheme, employees will become a member of the College's Group Personal Pension Plan (GPP). For this Plan, known as Tier 1, the employee contributes 5% and the employer 3%.
After nine months' membership of the Tier 1 plan employees may opt to join Tier 2, which is also a Group Personal Pension Plan and the contributions are 5% from the employee and a 9% contribution from the College. Employees in Tier 1 automatically qualify for a Life Cover of 2 times salary. On entry to Tier 2 Life Cover changes to 4 times salary.
Enhanced Disclosure and other Pre-employment checks
Winchester College is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children at the school. Therefore, this appointment will be subject to a successful Enhanced Disclosure and Barring check. This will provide details of convictions, reprimands, warnings, cautions and bind overs as per the DBS filtering guidance. The college may approach previous employers to seek relevant experience or qualifications, in addition to obtaining references provided by the candidate.
