The three key aims of the Winchester College Society ('the Society' or 'Win Coll Soc) are to:
* Maintain and build good relations among the membership of the Society (the worldwide Wykehamical family)
* Foster support for the School and pride in all it seeks to achieve
* Encourage a broad culture of giving
Role
The Director of the Winchester College Society ('the Director') reports to the Director of Development and supports his/her role, which is the implementation of the school's development programme and, through that activity, the raising of new philanthropic income in support of the school's mission, aims and objectives.
The school has good relations with its Wykehamical community, primarily its Old Wykehamists and parents, whether past or present. The Director's primary roles are to be regarded as the school's focal point of contact with the membership of Win Coll Soc and to liaise closely with the Director of Development (who is also a fellow Win Coll Soc Director).
The school has many distinguished old boys, parents, volunteers and contacts. The Director will need to carry credibility with the Society's entire membership, especially with this senior group, and generally to act as an ambassador for the school.
Key Responsibilities:
* To ensure that a relevant and vibrant events programme is in place, with a view to engaging as wide a spread of Win Coll Soc's membership as possible
* Working with the Events Team, to manage and host the Win Coll Soc events programme
* To develop relationships with the various OW Societies, Guilds, parents, and the Win Coll Soc network
* To advise the school's Careers and UCAS team on enhancing life opportunities through work experience and internships for current pupils, university students and recent leavers, as well as to maintain contact with recent leavers at university, not least in order to gain advice on courses and related issues
* To manage the Director of the Friends of Winchester College and Don Associate
* To work with the Development Associate in the management and marketing strategy of the Goddard Legacy Society as appropriate in order to recruit new members and enhance the eventual financial return; to help arrange an appropriate events programme for the Society's members each year
* To assist the Development Team to recruit members to the Wykeham Patrons group and to be responsible for the general relationship with members and arrange an appropriate events programme for the group, to include at least one foreign trip each year and also the annual dinner
Subsidiary Responsibilities:
* To assist the Director of Development in ensuring the smooth running of the Win Coll Soc Department
* To keep the Department's staff sufficiently informed so that they are able to handle at least initial enquiries, especially in the absence of the Director
* To attend meetings of the Friends of Winchester College
* To attend parents' events as necessary
* To attend relevant training seminars and conferences
* To attend the school's Senior Management Committee meetings whenever convened
* To give occasional guided tours and to entertain visitors
* To write the Win Coll Soc Director's Report for and to attend all Development Committee meetings and also meetings of the Win Coll Soc Council and the Wykeham Campaign Committee
* To assist with the production of the school's Annual Report (The Wykeham Journal) and the Trusty Servant
* To write those thank you letters for donations etc that do not fall obviously to others
* To lunch up-to-House on a regular basis and to maintain excellent relations with housemasters and Common Room generally
* To help manage some school events, for example Memorial Services, Domum
Person Specification
Essential
* Must have or intend to acquire in-depth knowledge of all things Wykehamical
* A clear understanding of the strategic role of relationship-building
* Excellent interpersonal and social skills with OWs of all ages and parents, especially those at a senior level
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* A high degree of IT literacy
* A creative approach to event-planning
* An ability to set and manage a budget
* An ability to work as part of a team and at times under pressure from deadlines
* A commitment to excellence in education and to the highest ethical standards of professional conduct, together with an understanding of all regulation governing charities and schools in particular
* A flexible approach to work and the ability to manage and motivate both staff and volunteers. The role entails travel as well as some evening and weekend work
Desirable
* Team management experience
* Knowledge of the application of CRM databases in the management of relationships
* Good working knowledge of the political and financial issues facing independent schools
* Good working knowledge of financial matters, personal tax, tax efficient giving to charity, and the workings of the City.

It is hoped that the successful candidate will be able to take up their duties as soon as possible subject to any notice period due to a current employer.

Hours of Work
This is a full time post with regular attendance at weekend and evening events during the year. The seniority of this position means that the successful applicant will be expected to work such hours as are necessary. Flexibility is required to cover out of hours and weekend meetings.
Holidays
The College leave year runs from 1 September to 31 August. The position will be entitled to the statutory entitlement of paid holiday per annum, which is currently 28 days including Bank Holidays. Bank Holidays occurring during term time are deemed as normal working days.
Probation and Notice Periods
The first four calendar months of employment will be a probationary period. During this period conduct and performance will be reviewed. The College may extend the probationary period if it is deemed to be required. During the probationary period the notice required to terminate employment will be one week (by either the employee or employer). The notice period will increase to one month upon the successful completion of the probationary period.
Pension and Life Cover
After 3 months' employment, employees will be auto-enrolled into the College's pension scheme according to legislative thresholds. Those who are not eligible for auto-enrolment may still elect to join the College's pension scheme.
Initially, when joining the College's pension scheme, employees will become a member of the College's Group Personal Pension Plan (GPP). For this Plan, known as Tier 1, the employee contributes 5% and the employer 3%.
After 9 month's membership of the Tier 1 plan employees may opt to join Tier 2, which is also a Group Personal Pension Plan and the contributions are 5% from the employee and a 9% contribution from the College.
Employees in Tier 1 automatically qualify for a Life Cover of 2 times salary. On entry to Tier 2 Life Cover changes to 4 times salary.
Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Check
Winchester College is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children at the school. Therefore, this appointment will be subject to a successful Enhanced Disclosure Barring check. This will provide details of convictions, reprimands, warnings, cautions and bind overs as per the DBS filtering guidance. A policy on the recruitment of ex-offenders, and information about DBS filtering, is available upon request from the HR Department if required. The college may approach previous employers to seek verification, in addition to obtaining references provided by the candidate.
