The Role
Domestics should be able to work as part of a small team with responsibility for the cleanliness of allocated areas of a boarding house. There will be times when they will be expected to work unsupervised and they will be expected to be flexible and cover for absent staff when required.
No experience of cleaning is required as training will be provided. However, Domestics will be expected to be organised and have an attention to detail and must continue to be capable of meeting the physical requirements of the post.
Responsibilities
Domestics will work in the boarding house(s) under the day-to-day supervision of the Matron. The Head of Department is the Housemaster. The main duties are:

Salary
The hourly rate for this role is £9.98 per hour. This will be paid monthly, to a nominated bank account in 12 equal payments.
The post will commence as soon as possible.

Holiday payment
The College holiday year runs from 1 September to 31 August. Domestics are entitled to the statutory holidays which must be taken outside of term time. Bank Holidays occurring during term time are considered to be normal working days. Only in exceptional circumstances, with prior approval from the HR Director will leave be authorised during term time.
Probation and Notice Periods
The first four working months of employment will be a probationary period. During this period conduct and performance will be monitored. The College may extend the probationary period at its discretion. The notice period during the probationary period will be one week and thereafter one month.
Pension and Life Cover
On employment, employees will be auto-enrolled into the College’s pension scheme according to legislative thresholds. Those who are not eligible for auto-enrolment may still elect to join the College’s pension scheme. Initially, when joining the College’s pension scheme, employees will become a member of the College’s Group Personal Pension Plan (GPP). For this Plan, known as Tier 1, the employee contributes 4% and the employer 3%.
After nine months’ membership of the Tier 1 plan employees may opt to join Tier 2, which is also a Group Personal Pension Plan and the contributions are 5% from the employee and a 9% contribution from the College. Employees in Tier 1 automatically qualify for a Life Cover of 2 times salary. On entry to Tier 2 Life Cover changes to 4 times salary.
Enhanced Disclosure and other Pre-employment checks
Winchester College is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children at the school. Therefore, this appointment will be subject to a successful Enhanced Disclosure and Barring check. This will provide details of convictions, reprimands, warnings, cautions and bind overs as per the DBS filtering guidance.
