THE ROLE
To supervise a small team on a day-to-day basis responsible for the delivery of an effective re-active maintenance service and refurbishment projects around the college. The post holder will ensure the team and sub-contractors deliver works cost effectively, in a timely manner, and to the high standards of workmanship our historic buildings require.
THE WORKS DEPARTMENT
The school has in its care an extraordinary range of buildings from chapels and classrooms to a swimming pool and science laboratories; from the fourteenth century to the twenty-first. The list embraces 11 boarding houses and over 100 staff houses.
This built environment is maintained and improved by the Works Department. Under the direction of the Estate Bursar; who also manages the capital projects. The Works Manager has a staff of about 25 operatives and is supported by department service managers.
Members of the Works Department team have a great affection for the school and 18 of its number have worked here more than 10 years. Combined with this affection, their exemplary skills produce a comprehensive and reliable service to the school community.
The department operates out of a purpose-built facility in Norman Road.
MAIN DUTIES
PERSON SPECIFICATION
The post holder will supervise a diverse multi trade team delivering the re-active and maintenance works within the college. You will be self-motivated, organised and adept at co-ordinating various works.
Ideally time served tradesman with experience in supervision.

Salary
Up to £35,000 dependent on qualifications and experience. Salary levels are reviewed on 1st September annually.
Holidays
The College leave year runs from 1 September to 31 August. This position will be entitled to the statutory holiday requirements. These are presently 28 days. Any Public Bank Holiday occurring during term time is deemed to be a normal working day. Holidays may not be taken during the school’s term-times, nor within the week either side of those dates.
All leave must be taken by prior arrangement with the designated line manager and should be given with four weeks’ notice. No bookings should be made until written approval has been obtained.
Probation Period and Notice Period
The first four months of employment, including the training time, will be a probationary period. During these three months the notice required by either party to terminate the employment will be one week, increasing to one calendar month on either side on satisfactory completion of the trial period.
Enhanced Disclosure and other Pre-employment Checks
