Sports Administrator
Job description
Sport at Winchester
There has been sport at Winchester since its foundation. It takes place on most afternoons, and all boys are expected to take changed exercise three times each week. The school's overall philosophy is one of individualism with standards.
In sport this involves wide choice: almost 30 sports are offered to boys at point of entry, and free choice
is given. The principal sports are Soccer and Cricket, which are popular and thriving. The school fields several teams in each age group, and enjoys considerable competitive success. Standards are expected to be high, and quality coaching is provided by an extensive teaching staff, supplemented by full and part time professional coaches. In the spring term, a wide range of sports is offered. Many are individual in nature, including Squash, Fives and Racquets, alongside Rowing and a growing Hockey programme.
Additionally, the school has its own, historic, Winchester College Football, which involves almost every boy in the school. There are outstanding facilities, including one of the country's most beautiful cricket grounds, a boathouse on the River Itchen and a lavish new sports centre under construction.
Position Summary
This is a new role and an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated organised person to work closely with the Head of Sport to enable the administration of a year-round sports programme. This is a term time only position with some hours required at the beginning and end of each term.
Role and Responsibilities
In the role, you will be expected to:
* Work with the Head of Sport, providing administrative support in the execution of his role and the running of the Department, coordinating the completion of risk assessments, budgets, and reports, and assisting with the administration of Winchester Match (a sports focussed open day)
* Liaise with the masters-in-charge (MIC) of each sport over administration of fixture arrangements for teams, including the provision of medical and dietary information for away teams
* Liaise with the commercial department (Enterprises) and Grounds department regarding the booking and use of sporting facilities
* Administer regular sports options for boys, creating reports on attendance and following up on unexplained absences or missing registers with MICs, housemasters and coaches, using the newly purchased online management programme SOCS
* Liaise and coordinate with external partners (eg kit and clothing suppliers)
* Help with the administration of Sports Awards, and the ongoing provision of training and support for award holders
* Work closely with the Director of Communications giving regular sporting updates and working with MICs on the collation of materials for the promotion of sport.
Person Specification
Essential
* A pleasant, friendly and helpful manner - in person and on the telephone
* Reliable, accurate, well organised and methodical, with a good eye for detail and a 'finisher'
* An ability to work under pressure, prioritise, and manage a fluctuating workload
* An ability to work with a diverse workforce
* An ability to organise others to allow you to meet your deadlines
* An ability to work with confidential information
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team

The college may approach previous employers to seek relevant experience or qualifications, in addition to obtaining references provided by the candidate.
