IT Department
The IT Department has responsibility for all of the College's IT services and systems, whether provided on or off site, and for ensuring delivery of appropriate service levels and efficient and reliable systems and services.
The team consists of a Head of Infrastructure, a Technical Analyst, a Project Manager, three Support Technicians and an IT Trainer and Business Analyst who all report into the Director of IT.The team's responsibilities involve supporting and maintaining the College's IT infrastructure, network, wireless network, devices, software and services, as well as designing and testing new technical solutions in line with the College's IT Strategy and Policies.The department is undergoing huge development as it moves towards a new phase of expansion, progress and growth.Roles and Responsibilities
To work within a small IT Services team supporting the IT requirements at Winchester College.
The team's responsibilities comprise of supporting and maintaining the College's IT infrastructure, network, wireless network, devices, software and services as well as designing and testing new technical solutions in line with the College's IT Strategy and Policies.Candidates will require a good level of technical skills with some years' experience, of both client and server based computers, as well as experience of networking, wireless networking, Active Directory domains and of server and networking hardware. The candidate will have the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies as they appear as driven by client requirements.Experience of working with managed desktop and mobile build environments is essential. Experience of software deployment, remote management and end-user experience management technologies is an advantage.The candidate will be a good natural problem-solver and have excellent incident and problem analysis, diagnosis and resolution skills. They will feel confident acting as an escalation point for the IT Support team.The candidate's interpersonal skills will mean that they feel just as comfortable with dealing with a junior colleague as they would be conversing with one of the senior management team. This will be both in person and over the phone.It also means writing documentation and providing some coaching to colleagues so that they can continue to learn from the candidate's experience and knowledge. Just as important is that the candidate will be open to doing things in a new way and you will understand that adapting to change is just as important as getting it right every time.The candidate's experience will be useful in assisting the Director of IT, specifically as they develop and deliver an IT strategy that delivers the School's IT vision.The successful candidate will be expected to play their full part in the IT Services team, including covering other roles and answering calls from end users when required.Experience and Knowledge
* Educated to A-Level or equivalent, including Mathematics
* Active and recent Microsoft technical qualifications would be an advantage* General skills (communication, questioning, problem solving)* TCP/IP fundamentals including vlan technologies* Microsoft Windows-based networks and servers, including Active Directory* Client computers running various Microsoft operating systems including Windows 10* Corporate LANs, WiFi Networks, and Mobile technology including MS Surfaces* Experience of centralised administration, securing user environments with lock down* Experience of operating system installations, creating client builds, adding driver support for new hardware* Ability to accurately test and diagnose problems in a systematic and logical manner prior to delivering projects to implementation* Ability to construct a UAT testing programme and deliver and test a working solution that meets the defined success criteria* Ability to design robust and supportable solutions with low administration and helpdesk overhead* High attention to detail, with an emphasis on providing a seamless, fuss-free but functionally rich end user experience to our clients
