Winchester College Society brings together Old Wykehamists, Old Quiristers, Parents, Former Dons and the Friends of Winchester College. It has two key objectives: * To manage and strengthen the relationship between the school and members of the Society.
* To foster support for the school and pride in all it seeks to achieve.
Context
Winchester, like all independent schools, is facing a period of change and uncertainty in the wake of the coronavirus crisis. But we are determined to maintain, and indeed strengthen, the links between the Winchester Community worldwide. The new Director of Winchester College Society ("the Director of the Society") will be expected to approach this new set of challenges with energy, optimism and creativity.
Role
The Director of the Society reports to the Director of Development, and supports the delivery of her long term goals. He/she is the focal point for the school's engagement with Win Coll Soc, responsible for ensuring that Win Coll Soc is a dynamic organisation, engaging actively with its members. The Director will need to carry credibility with the Society's entire membership, including the many distinguished figures; and to act as an ambassador for the school.
Key Responsibilities
* To set the strategic direction of Win Coll Soc in close consultation with the Headmaster and Director of Development.
* To maintain a close and productive relationship with the Winchester Community in the UK and around the world.
* To deliver a programme of interesting and vibrant events, engaging as wide a range of Win Coll Soc's membership as possible (including Wykeham Patrons, the Goddard Legacy Society, OW Guilds and the Friends of Winchester College).
* To advise the school on opportunities for work experience and internships for current pupils and recent leavers, as well as to maintain contact with recent leavers at university.* To manage the Director of the Friends of Winchester College and Don Associate.
* To work with the Development Associate in the management and marketing of the Goddard Legacy Society in order to recruit new members and enhance the eventual financial return.
* To assist the Development Team to recruit members to the Wykeham Patrons group and to be responsible for the general relationship with members.
Person Specification
Essential
* Must have, or be committed to acquiring, an in-depth knowledge of all things Wykehamical.
* A clear understanding of the strategic role of relationship building.
* Excellent interpersonal and social skills.* The ability to be an ambassador for the school.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluent oral expression including in public speaking.
* A good level of IT literacy.
* A creative approach to event planning.
* An ability to set and manage a budget.
* An ability to work as part of a team and at times under pressure from deadlines.
* A commitment to excellence in education and to the highest ethical standards of professional conduct, together with an understanding of the regulatory environment governing charities.
* A flexible approach to work and the ability to manage and motivate both staff and volunteers. The role entails travel as well as some evening and weekend work.
Desirable
* Team management experience.
* Knowledge of the application of CRM databases in the management of relationships.
* Good working knowledge of the political and financial issues facing independent schools.
* Good working knowledge of financial matters, personal tax, tax efficient giving to charity, and the workings of the City.

The Director of Win Coll Soc is supported by a PA and the administrative team of the Development Office.

Start date
It is hoped that the successful candidate will be able to take up their duties as soon as possible subject to any notice period due to a current employer.
Salary
Competitive.
Hours of Work
This is a full time post with regular attendance at weekend and evening events during the year. The seniority of this position means that the successful applicant will be expected to work such hours as are necessary. Flexibility is required to cover out of hours and weekend meetings.
Holidays
The College leave year runs from 1 September to 31 August. The position will be entitled to the statutory entitlement of paid holiday per annum, which is currently 28 days including Bank Holidays. Bank Holidays occurring during term time are deemed as normal working days.
Probation and Notice Periods
The first four calendar months of employment will be a probationary period. During this period conduct and performance will be reviewed. The College may extend the probationary period if it is deemed to be required. During the probationary period the notice required to terminate employment will be one week (by either the employee or employer). The notice period will increase to one month upon the successful completion of the probationary period.
Pension and Life Cover
After 3 months' employment, employees will be auto-enrolled into the College's pension scheme according to legislative thresholds. Those who are not eligible for auto-enrolment may still elect to join the College's pension scheme.
Initially, when joining the College's pension scheme, employees will become a member of the College's Group Personal Pension Plan (GPP). For this Plan, known as Tier 1, the employee contributes 5% and the employer 3%.
After 9 month's membership of the Tier 1 plan employees may opt to join Tier 2, which is also a Group Personal Pension Plan and the contributions are 5% from the employee and a 9% contribution from the College.
Employees in Tier 1 automatically qualify for a Life Cover of 2 times salary. On entry to Tier 2 Life Cover changes to 4 times salary.
Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Check
Winchester College is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children at the school. Therefore, this appointment will be subject to a successful Enhanced Disclosure Barring check. This will provide details of convictions, reprimands, warnings, cautions and bind overs as per the DBS filtering guidance. A policy on the recruitment of ex-offenders,and information about DBS filtering, is available upon request from the HR Department if required. The college may approach previous employers to seek verification, in addition to obtaining references provided by the candidate.
